The Schoharie Valley - Exploring the History, Agriculture, and Restoration

Friday September 30, 2016 8:00AM to 4:00PM

The Hudson River Environmental Society hosted an ecotour of the Schoharie River Valley on September 30, 2016.  We visited a post-Irene stream restoration work site on Little Schoharie Creek with Peter Nichols of the Schoharie Soil and Water Conservation District. We visited the Schoharie Old Stone Fort where Revolutionary War reenactor Kyle Jenks and the staff of the Old Stone Fort will discuss Palatine and Revolutionary War history. We had lunch at the Carrot Barn where NYS Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets Richard Ball will discuss agriculture in the Schoharie and Mohawk Valley. Lastly, we visited the Schoharie River Center where high school age kids use macroinvertebrates to assess water quality, participate in archaeology, and collect folk lore.
