Hi HRES members and friends.

It appears that Mother Nature decided to show us all of the weather options available in the last couple of weeks. It was nice to wake up to cooler temperatures (at least for a few days).

We held our monthly online meeting on June 16, 2025. Chuck, Lucy, David, Emile, and I were on the call. Here is a summary of the agenda topics that we discussed:

  • Symposium Planning Update: Chuck – We are continuing to develop the agenda for this fall’s Hudson River Symposium. This month we discussed the restoration theme with folks from the Hudson River Foundation and the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program. We are hoping to focus the symposium on a few issues that are making our restoration efforts challenging. Both HRF and NY-NJ HEP are helping us identify the key issues. We have also discussed the symposium with the Hudson-Delaware Chapter (HDC) of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). HDC is very interested in exploring the options of being a partner at this symposium and others in the future.   • Summer Newsletter: David – Emailed to members on June 4, 2025.
  • Treasurer’s Report: David – Balance is $41,000. 
  • Website: Jim – Will coordinate an online meeting with Jeff to review updates and see when we can set up training dates.
  • Beyond the Sea Lecture- Cary Institute: Emilie – Emilie and I attended a lecture on Friday, June13th at the Cary Institute. David Strayer was the featured speaker. After his book signing session, David presented a lecture on his new book “Beyond the Sea. The Hidden Life in Lakes, Streams, and Wetlands.” I found it to be a very informative presentation, learning new information even after 50 years of working in the field of limnology and fisheries.
  • Memberships: Jim – We received HRF’s membership renewal for 2025. Most membership renewals are scheduled for October of this year.
  • Board Meeting: Lucy- An email will be sent to the Board Members to select a date in September when we can schedule a meeting.

 Next Executive Committee meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2025.
