2026 Hudson River Symposium: The State of Community and Citizen Based Science in the Hudson River Estuary and Watershed
Cary Institute of Ecosystem Systems, Millbrook, New York
October 28, 2026; 9 am to 5:30 pm
Community and citizen-based science and monitoring have been providing a diverse citizenry with an active connection to the Hudson River estuary and watershed for many years. Scientists, environmentalists, and engaged citizens have been collaborating for decades establishing robust programs to track water quality, aquatic plants, and fish. Some of these programs have provided continuous data for more than 20 years and have been published in peer journals, used to guide resource management and provide for public health. This year’s Hudson River Symposium will showcase these programs, present scientific knowledge gained, resource management value, and identify challenges that need to be overcome for these programs to continue to endure.
